The Ghouls Slots

The Ghouls Slots
We could jump out and shout boo, but it’s not going to scare you into reading our full game review for The Ghouls. You should be aware there are plenty of freaky characters to meet if you check out this game though. Expect a night-based setting and a few familiar – if creepy – figures coming into view as you play.

Who’s the developer?

You can meet an earlier game from the creepy back catalog owned by Betsoft.

Is there a demonic demo game to try first?

Don’t let the real game spook you – there’s a demo to load and check out first if you want.

Are we in for a frightening theme?

Yes, although we have seen scarier games than this one, so don’t let the theme put you off. See how many characters you might recognize along the way.

A simpler design for 3D fans at Betsoft

Yes, you’ll be familiar with the 3D slots that often come from the Betsoft team nowadays. Here, though, we’ve got a 2D cartoon-style game to check out, offering Frankenstein and a freaky mummy among the other characters available on the reels. It is certainly simpler, but it still has a charm.

How to begin playing The Ghouls

Expect the usual five-reel game with three symbols landing on each. The slot does have a progressive jackpot, shown above the reels and increasing in value if you’re playing the real game.

Stay alert for pumpkins to land because these are wild symbols. You also get a vampire swooping into action as a scatter icon. Even better, a second scatter might also appear, shaped as a gravestone.

Wilds substitute for everything apart from the two scatters mentioned above. It won’t replace the haunted house either.

How many lines can you bet on?

There are 20 involved in the slot game.

Plenty of coins to choose from

And since they begin at two cents each, most players should be able to find a reasonable total wager to play all the lines if they wish.

The owl keeps watch over the paytable

This is the ideal way to spot it because the owl is easier to see! The paytable is to the right of it.

The gravestones lead to the bonus round

You need three graves to unlock the bonus. Once there, a second screen reveals six graves. You’ve played bonuses like this before, we’re sure, because all but one grave contains a prize. The final one has a message saying COLLECT. Pick a grave and hope you’ve found a prize. If you have, keep on choosing until the message appears. At this point you’ll return to the base game.

The vampire reveals your free spins

If you can get three or more vampire scatter symbols in view, you’ll receive some free games. Three vampires earn five spins, but if you get four or five, you’ll receive 10 or 20 spins, respectively.

Do we know the return to player value?

It looks like it lands at around the 96% mark.

Did we like The Ghouls slot game?

We did, and for an older slot it does give a few clues to how Betsoft would progress with slot games as they gained more experience. We’d love to see a newer version of this game, but on the basis of our experience, we’ll give it 8/10.

How can you get hold of that progressive jackpot?

This is the toughest prize in the whole game to receive, as you’d expect. The haunted house leads you toward it, but you need five haunted houses on one of the paid lines to receive the prize. Remember that you do need five houses – you cannot substitute any of those with a wild to scoop that prize.

Demo play is the ideal start

The demo offers lots of potential and the chance to see how the game works. Start out this way if you can.

Play the real game too once you’re all set

Budget, coins, affordability… make sure these elements are set up and ready to allow some real spins on The Ghouls.

Try it on mobile devices too

If you’ve got a smartphone or tablet, you should find you can play The Ghouls on those as well.
